My Tax Dollars at Work

Got this in the mail via certified mail today. Seems that my rare traffic infraction was photographed, and I will soon have the pleasure of paying $125 to the City of Orlando for my hapless civil disobedience. Not only that, the event is memorialized for all time with this very special only-one-of-its-kind souvenir.

I'm such a rebel, and a lucky one at that. I don't know how anyone lives with me!

Jewelry Box

Did your mother have a jewelry box? Did you ever snoop in it? What did you find in there, and do you know the reasons why it held what it did?

My mom had a black jewelry box that was lined with red velvet. It had a lot of attached trays that folded out with the silver accordion-looking metal bars. I knew there was no tooth fairy after I found some of my baby teeth in one of the tiny compartments. I loved looking at all the trinkets and little tiny pieces of my mom's stuff. One of my friends got the ballerina jewelry box, then I had one of my own. I've owned quite a lot of jewelry boxes. I love boxes of all kinds, including the little hinged ones and the ones that have a lid and a separate piece.

Recently I realized that Caroline (and probably John Sam) had been looking in my jewelry box. This cherry looking one was given to me by my friend Colleen ("Colleenie Bobeenie Banana-fana Fo-fina") as a weddding present. It holds my charm bracelet and the few good necklaces I have: the opal heart, John Sam's birthstone; the red ruby heart trio from Granny; the ruby and diamond heart with 2000 on it from Sam. Also in there is the tennis bracelet Sam gave me for our first Christmas, my Photo Memory Bracelet, and a pin with John Sam's picture on it that he made me when he was in Mrs. Henley's pre-K class. I have a St. Christopher medal that my Aunt Jeannie gave me when I was a kid and two academic keys I won in my senior year of high school. I keep Caroline's baby jewelry (bracelets from Janice, Granny, and the ID bracelet we gave her for her first birthday). The photos on the lid of the box display my black & white profile photos of the kids. You can see my other little boxes too.

Most of what's in there is in there because of where I got it or who gave it to me. Priceless treasures with precious memories.

Pretty ordinary day. Felt a little tired most of the day, like somebody switched the real coffee for decaf. Hope I feel more energy tomorrow!

Tokyo's Birthday (observed)

Happy Birthday to Tokyo Jones! We estimate that she is 4 this year, and she's been with us for 2 years now! Her Cinco de Mayo treat was Tostitos and a couple of Milkbones. She is a funny member of our family.

I got my writing package ready to send to Dodie, and will mail it tomorrow on my sister's birthday for good luck. Sending the light out there so it can find its way back. With a lot of green~

Posting Delay

There will be a delay on posting some of the cute things I've recently made due to some nosy, I mean faithful, followers of the blog. ;-) But you will love them when they go up!

Happy National Scrapbook Day!

A whole day devoted to scrapbooking! Woo-hoo! I'm working it in between the chores. Nothing like the smell of lemon Pine-Sol to inspire my creativity :)

May Day 2009

Happy May Day to all. Weather was very cooperative today; a nice mix of clouds and sun. After work and school, we went to our friend Christian's birthday party. We got to hang out and visit with kids and grownups, eat barbecue, swim and eat Spongebob birthday cake with mint chocolate chip ice cream. There was also a pinata and lots of candy. It was a good day. :)

Tomorrow there WILL be housework. The kids also have reading practice and a little homework, and we will finish some other projects together. If we really put the pedal to the metal, we can knock it out in 3/4 day and have the rest of the weekend to free roam, so to speak.

Sounds like a plan!
