It's an even number

My age is an even number this year.  That's as deep as I'm getting, hehe.  A few pictures from 8/29/10:

Other gifts that I loved:  cards in the mail, texts, and $$$.
:)

The one of just me is big enough, lol.  Granny took the one of me with the kids.  The brown basket is holding unmentionables right now, but after I go to Ikea, the basket will hold my "currently reading" books.  The angel is so beautiful on my desk.  I forgot to take a picture of the new vase; it'll be worth the wait to see it tomorrow because it looks just right in a spot that needed a little something.  I shouldn't rub it in, but there is a tiny piece of cake left so I'm eating it.

Icing

My birthday cake, which we ate on Saturday night, a/k/a the last day of my being 45:

Yes, it was as good as it looks!  We had ice cream, too~

Campaigns and Voting

I can't say I'm sorry that the elections are now over.  Some of the people standing on the streets holding signs and shouting for their candidate are a teeny bit scary.  I'm glad the commercials are over, the radio ads are over, and buh-bye to all those tacky signs.

New School Year Means New Shoes

His:

The coworkers who told me about this place

are pure EVIL.  Just kidding....truth be told, they are shoe ho's - just like me. I haven't been around that many pairs of FMP's since I was clubbing!  *lol*  So thanks for the referral for retail therapy, ladies.

First Day of School 2010

Get out the Puffs Plus - these are so cute, your eyes will water!  Look out Fourth Grade and Second Grade!  JS and CG are ready for a new school year~~

This is me being fancy with the camera ;)

Dusk

Colorful pictures of the early evening sky.  Except for portions of the neighbor's roof and power lines mucking up my composition, they turned out nicely.

Last Week of Summer

Summer camp has a fun day planned for every day of this last week of summer.  Today was "dress like a cartoon character," so they did (Josie & the Pussycats and Luigi).  I was shocked at how big they look, so here's my story and I'm sticking with it:  they look so big because they were very close to the camera.

Did you know that mascara makes a great mustache when the original stick-on 'stache is lost?

Random Wednesday 8/11

Zoom lens again and got some more pictures of Tokyo ... I love how the one with her ears up turned out.

I'm posting these today in honor of Kismet's 18th birthday.  He would've enjoyed being legal *haha*

I got some BIRTHDAY BLING in the mail today from Colleen - you know you're jealous!  The stones she used are my birthstone (peridot) and the pictures don't really capture the beauty of it.  Thank you to my dear friend!

Some days are like that--

Except for my class tonight, there was only a little bit of good in my day today.  Morning? Bad.  Mid-morning? Bad, too.  Lunch, average.  Well, actually it wasn't too bad because I didn't get wet in the random downpours.  So there's that.  After lunch?  Work drama.  The same old battle--it used to amuse me, but now I'm weary of it.  After work?  On the way to school?  Car stalled.  Twice.  Grrrrr.

Had a good class (we laugh a lot in there) and got out a little early.  So I went to Target to get the rest of the school supplies that Walmart didn't have.

I'm betting this post is in the top three of my all-time lamest posts ever on the blog.  You can check ;-)

P.S.  Another good thing about today is that it is my very dear friend Colleen's birthday!  Happy Birthday!!

Great Rules of Writing

I saw this little ditty by William Safire and thought it was worth passing along.  :)  Mr. Safire was a long-time syndicated political columnist for the New York Times and a regular contributor to "On Language" in the New York Times Magazine.

"Great Rules of Writing"

Do not put statements in the negative form.

And don't start sentences with a conjunction.

If you reread your work, you will find on rereading that a
great deal of repetition can be avoided by rereading and editing.

Never use a long word when a diminutive one will do.

Unqualified superlatives are the worst of all.

De-accession euphemisms.

If any word is improper at the end of a sentence, a linking verb is.

Avoid trendy locutions that sound flaky.

Last, but not least, avoid cliches like the plague.

fluffffff

The above post title means that I have have nuttin' to blog about.  I went to bed early last night, so of course tonight I need to offset that epic event.

Tomorrow I'll be getting the ugly draft of story #2 ready for proofing, and I'm having lunch with Leslie to show her my first story.  She is a working writer, so I can't wait to get her comments.

And yes, to my sister's mother and my mother's other daughter, I will be sending your copies of the story shortly. ha

xoxo

PS - Anyone else want to read story 1?  E-mail me . . .

Tiny Squatters

We had some teeny-tiny squatters on our property:  a mama and her baby kitten.  They stayed for a couple of days.  I wanted to get some more closeups of the kitten, but mama had moved them on when I went out with the camera a second time.  Good thing, too, 'cause I was just about to name the pair of them!  :)

They're a little  hard to see--they're in the center of the photo laying on the white pipes.  Mama is all black and kitten has a Siamese buff color, with blue eyes and a raccoon tail.  You can see the baby's paw on the mama . . . awwwwww!

P.S. August?  Are you freakin kidding me?!
