Ready for MoMA

Ahem, that would be THE Museum of Modern Art ;)

These were on display in the art room at the Literacy Night event.   I didn't know the kids' work had been chosen and I was disappointed that I didn't get to see them "up in lights."  I think the judges were wise to feature these two original pieces of art.

Eleventh Wedding Anniversary

Steel is the traditional gift suggestion for eleven years of marriage.  When one considers the properties of steel, it seems beautifully symbolic.  Steel is a shiny metal with an attractive finish.  It is strong and resistant to fracture, yet is malleable and easily forged into different shapes and angles.  Durable and long lasting, it is a lovely choice for the 11th wedding anniversary because it is resilient to the wear, tear, and challenges of time.

The 11th anniversary gift flower is the morning glory.

Right of Way Violation

I'll  have to go back and check and see how many times my car has been mentioned on the blog.

Oh.  Gee.

This looks wayyy worse than it was/is.  We were turning into Burger King and the light was red so traffic was backing up and people were trying off and on to let me go across.  A semi was stopped in the center lane, the car in the lane closest to me slowed down and waved me across. I was thinking, finally, someone else is letting us across and just when I moved into the center lane the semi moved forward.  He didn't see me until he heard the uh, crunch.  Everyone is fine, everyone has insurance, and now everyone's car is driveable.  The semi was unloaded and driven by a really calm guy and his wife.  They weren't upset and asked about me and the kids.  Then we had a super fun time waiting for FHP and AAA, who got there sooner than we expected.  The trooper looked like Andre Braugher and mentioned that I couldn't have been going very fast since my airbag didn't deploy.  Hee!!

We got our Burger King meals while the trooper wrote out the insurance papers and gave me a right of way violation ticket.  The semi driver told the trooper he didn't think I should get one, which I thought was nice, but he was definitely in the right. I felt pretty fortunate about getting a ticket instead of something much worse.

The tow truck driver had the Magic game on the radio while we got our short tow to the house.  John Sam didn't mind the ride.  Caroline didn't like it, and I told her we wouldn't be doing that again anytime soon.

Festive Cookies

Our office manager and her daughter make these cookies every Thanksgiving.  John Sam and Caroline were quite happy to be recipients of their tradition!  I'm sure that some of Martha Stewart's people will soon be copying them, but remember--you saw them here first.  ;P

Two more days till the eat-a-thon!

Bookworm alert

This year's first Literacy Night was tonight.  We usually stay for the whole event, but we ate dinner and went to the media center.  Neither of the kids' teachers put any books on their wish lists, so everybody got their one book and we went home. We had a pretend fire drill while in the media center, though, and I now know the kids won't have one bit of trouble hearing it if there is ever a real fire.

I'm not really feeling the extra hour thing.  Where did it go?  How did it sneak by me?  I had BIG PLANS for that extra hour . . .

Better today

Ok, I feel a little silly after the big pity party from yesterday.  ESPECIALLY since I succumbed to my insecurities and just e-mailed the professor about what letter grade my average comes out to.  She said 70-79 was a C, so that means I got a C on mid-term.  I did my entire average with all the percentages so far and it is.....

wait for it.....

78.

Which means if I bust it for the rest of the class assignments and the final, I could maybe, possibly, hopefully, somehow, someway, if-there-is-a-God-in-the-universe squeak out with a B minus minus.  I'm going to work really hard.

I appreciate all my family and friends giving me encouragement to dust off and get back on the horse.

LMAO!  xo xo xo xo

PS - Enjoying the cooler weather immensely.  Along with all my other plans, I'm scrapping this weekend 'cause I've been feeling deprived, and I think the weather will be darn near perfect for taking some new pictures.

72.5

I already put it on Facebook, so I'm putting here too.  I got a 72.5% on the mid-term, which is a D.  I still haven't added up the total points to get the average for the whole class, but I'm guessing it will also fall into the D range.  First thing that comes to mind is, D for dumba$$!

A few things I need to get off my chest.  I really thought the study group and extra review sessions were working.  Even the people in the group said they noticed I was improving. Now I'm disappointed & upset by a low grade instead of being concerned that apparently I still don't get some of the material.  Two answers I changed were correct before I changed them to a wrong answer.  I hate that a LOT.  I need to ponder on why not being one of the smartest in the class bothers me this much.  And I will do that - after I finish this week's homework. lol

I did great on one section that I thought I was going to lose points on.  Actually I had started erasing some of what I'd written, but then Prof. said she was leaving so I had to stop & turn it in.  I ended up getting all possible points on that section.  A small "hee!" will have to go here.....

Tomorrow is Friday so it'll be a good day to stop wallowing and start taking the actions that will help me reach my goal of getting a better grade on the final.

November is upon us

I love November--it's one of my favorite months!  Except this year, I wasn't quite ready for it yet.  Halloween snuck up on me and I've been very scattered otherwise, so it felt like everything was last minute.  I got some cute pictures, and the fact that the kids got hardly any candy made their dad happy.  So it's all good.

I registered for two classes next semester.  Both are American Lit classes.  We'll see how it goes for a couple or three weeks with them, and if necessary, I'll drop one and take it in the fall.  It'd be great, though, if I could get them both knocked out in the spring!!

Time to proofread the kids' homework, read about the literacy fair, get my homework reading in one spot, and set that alarm clock.

*Yawn*
