Made ya look!

This is a faux post, not a real one, because I don't have any new pictures, scrap layouts, or quotes to share.  But I am taking some new pictures this weekend and doing some other fun stuff, and relaxing in between, so I should have some genuine posting coming up soon.

New Blog Background

Forgot to ask--how do you like the new blog banner?  I know I still need to tweak the colors on the posts, but I'll think about that tomorrow.

Genealogy is addictive

I've been doing family history research online, and have gotten a couple of new tidbits that have helped me find a lot of public records.  The census lists have been a major source of new info--which is a little cool since this year's census has just been concluded.  So I guess that really is important, heeeeee!

I noticed it also makes the clock go really fast when you get going on yet another branch of the family tree.

Slightly Different

The DH cut this thin branch from the rosebush, and I like how it looks a vine when I hung it up like this.  The petals feel like a rose and it smells like a rose, but it has more of a carnation look.

Kudos to Governor Crist

Florida's governor Charlie Crist has vetoed the controversial bill regarding teachers' merit pay calculated by scores on the FCAT.

Here's the breaking news link Crist Vetoes Bill

I do support merit pay for teachers, but not using the method Crist just vetoed.  I'm extremely encouraged by today's developments.

Thank you Charlie Crist!

Wanted to

It is 10:13 pm and I'm compiling a short list of things I wanted to do but didn't get done today:

Call Granny
Take some pictures
Blog and add pictures
Balance checkbook
Fold one load of laundry

Instead, I went to Publix and made this list so I can add a post to the blog count before logging off and going to bed.  Ooooooo, does that count as another thing?  lmao

See ya Thursday~

Panoramic scanning

I've had my HP scanner and fax "all-in-one" printer for at least six years.  It stopped working more than a year ago, though, I think because of a driver update I never installed.  I could manually scan stuff, but it was a real PITA. The last straw was when it started taking itself offline.  Every time I tried to print, I had to turn it off and turn it on, with a lot of other annoying steps in between.  I went online and got the drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled.  Woohoo!

Now that it's fixed, I've started messing with the HP software that I couldn't access before.  It has a panoramic photo thingy (let me know if I get too technical). I thought I remembered one of my scrap friends saying that panoramic was similar to stitching, where the computer merges two halves of a oversize photo or in my case, layout.  :)

I scanned both halves of the Outtakes layout and put it together.  It looks very good except for some shadowing and that it has two of the letter "i" in the title word Otherwise and there's a little spot at the top where the edge doesn't line up just right.  I'm thinking it still looks better than my photo of the page.  I'm surprised I've never tried doing that before--it was really easy.

See if you can tell the difference between this version and yesterday's:

In other news, John Sam got one B and four As on his report card. Caroline got A's on hers, too.  I'm glad they did well this grading period in spite of all the time they were forced to waste on FCAT testing.  Which reminds me - I hope Charlie Crist will VETO the bill regarding teachers and merit pay.

Sleep tight this Monday night~

John Sam and Socks

While wandering in Target, I came upon the girly bath soap aisle. There were some socks hanging by the foot products, and they looked fluffy so I thought I’d feel them. As you can clearly see, the tag says Touch Me, I'm Super Soft.  Big mistake. I should’ve listened to Mom’s advice. “Don’t touch anything,” she says. “If it’s soft, I buy it.  Whether I need it or not!”

They WERE ultra soft, so I bought a pair for Mom, Sissy, and me.  I put two pair away and went down the hallway to go to bed. I had the socks with me and stopped to check on John Sam. Since he wasn’t asleep, I tucked him in again and then I tucked myself in.

The next day after school, I heard them laughing and I saw John Sam come sliding out of the hallway . . . in my brand new soft socks. My soft socks that were green and white the night before, but are now green and gray and loaded with Tokyo fur. He slid all over the living room, kitchen, and back into the living room.

“Why are you wearing my new socks?” I asked.

“You left them on my hamper, Mom. I thought they were mine . . . ” as he slides back down the hall.

I'm pretty sure he enjoyed them more than I would have.  :)

Free Books and New Books

Books were everywhere at Literacy Night at the school.  The book fair is in town!  Yay!  I got another layout completed except for a couple of doodads. Pictures tomorrow after work.  It's going to be a little weird going back to the office after so long being out.  Another short week :)

Poor light

I wanted to post a layout I finished, but the pictures of it looked so bad, I decided to retake them tomorrow.  Might finish up another one and post two.  :)

Rosy Path Ahead

Our two-different-colored-roses rosebush has been putting out small white flowers.  The petals come off easily, almost like dandelions.  Caroline had a grand time scattering them all around our walkway. Practicing to be a flower girl?

Another plant on the other side of our front yard has bloomed like crazy.  It was only about 2 weeks ago that it was only green leaves.  I think they could be the Florida version of cherry blossoms in bloom.

Easter Sunday 2010

Found this vintage Easter image in my stash . . . it was crooked and that bugged me, so I added some lace to it to make those straight lines I love, heeeee!

"Best of" Cousins Photo Shoot

Some more of my favorite outtakes of posing for pictures with cousins.  This is Volume 5 or Volume 6, whatever it took (lmao!). Granny Old was not in the mood to pose for any pictures, but she had a lot of fun watching her daughters boss each other around with each other's camera.  Holding a few back pending permission; will put those up when I get the go ahead.
